The data is transferred in fiber cables with a transfer speed up to 10Gbit/s – bi directional!

I can see why Intel haven’t started supporting USB 3.0 yet with this in the pipe, hopefully they manage to get it to production soon. See the video below for a presentation of Light Peak.
